IBEX Students Shelter in Israel During Iran Conflict
IBEX students studying in Israel are safe but sheltering in place after several Iranian missiles landed near their campus Friday night.
Brian Biedebach, father of two students on the trip and a pastor at Grace Community Church, shared an update Sunday with his fellowship group, Steadfast. He said the students remain unharmed after missiles struck a city about 12 miles from their campus.
Among the students connected to the Steadfast fellowship group are Isaac Erazo, Leah Burke, Benjamin and Bradley Biedebach, all of whom are reported safe.
At this time, program leaders are not attempting to evacuate the students from Israel. Instead, they are monitoring the situation and hoping the conflict subsides so the semester can continue as planned.
The missile strikes come amid a wider regional conflict following a joint U.S.–Israeli operation that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader and dozens of senior officials in a targeted strike on Iran’s leadership. In response, Iran has launched missiles and drones at multiple countries across the region, including Israel and several Gulf states. Some commentators have suggested the attacks may represent the final breath of a dying regime and will not last long.
Biedebach asked the fellowship group to pray for the students’ safety and for their ability to complete the semester in the Holy Land.
