Doxology to make chorale debut in one-night only performance of Hayden's 'The Creation' this Friday

Feb 20 - Elizabeth Powell

On Friday, Feb. 21, the Paul T. Plew School of Music will host its annual Chorale concert in the Music Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

The theme for this year’s concert is “Creation,” as Chorale will be performing Hayden’s “The Creation,” directed by Dr. Marius Bahnean, the Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities.

“Throughout the program, there are different pieces that kind of tie into the creation story,” noted music department Administrative Assistant Emily Parlee. “It’s going to be great.”

The 2025 concert will mark Bahnean’s second year directing the Chorale in this performance.

“We’ve just enjoyed seeing how he’s made it his own,” Parlee said.

Featured in this year’s program is the singing group, Doxology, which will sing in its first Chorale concert. Formerly called “Majesty,” Parlee explained that this smaller choral group, made of twelve students, stopped existing for many years and was only re-established in the fall of 2024.

“It’s kind of a resurrected group with a new name,” Parlee said.

Members of Doxology perform chamber music and function as a travelling choir, in which each student is required to both sing and play an instrument.

The Chorale concert will only have one performance on Friday night and is expected sell out completely. General admission tickets are $10.00, while tickets for TMU students, staff and faculty cost $5.00.
