Hotchkiss hosts 10th annual “Hotchelor” event; thousands raised for Go!
Mar 4 - Andie Valdes
Every spring, the Hotchkiss dorm hosts “Hotchelor,” an annual auction event to raise money for GO! trips taking place in the summer. This year’s support is helping fund a mission trip to Albania.
Now a decade into the tradition, “Hotchelor” — a spinoff of the popular TV show Bachelor — took place in the Hotchkiss lounge at 7 p.m. on March 1, with students of all dorms there to watch and participate.
Hosted by senior Jared McDonald and junior Peyton Gorans, the event consisted of 14 Hotchkiss men being auctioned for money. But rather than bidding on a person, girls were informed about the date and then bid based on the activity. This year's dates included bowling and dessert, mini golf and Dave’s Hot Chicken, the Griffith Observatory and Salt & Straw, and pickleball and MOD pizza.
Drinks and pizza were also available for purchase in contribution to the funds.
Throughout the event over $2,300 was raised in support for the trip to Albania.
Savannah Tichy, a sophomore studying teacher education and Hotchkiss resident, came to watch the event. “I had such a fun time at Hotchelor this year!” she said. “The environment was lighthearted and fun and made it enjoyable for everyone there - whether they were just there for fun, betting, or were doing some kind of work to set the event up!”
This was Levi Richmond’s second time being auctioned for the Hotchelor event. He said, “Last year I was nervous that girls would be bidding on me. But this year I realized how lighthearted the event is and focused on the goal of it being for missions. It was a fun atmosphere with lots of laughing and the occasional awkward touch, but that’s needed.”
But Richmond and the rest of campus knows the most important part of the event is clear — “Being the senders, the end goal is to glorify God through our donations.”
