Doxology" chorale group to make its debuts this year
Dec 7 - Katherina Arcos
Dr. Marius Bahnean is directing a new choral group of 12 members called the Doxology Singers.
Bahnean joined the music faculty in 2023.
Bahnean, or “Dr. B” as his students call him, said that the group’s vision is “to foremost glorify God through good, excellent music making.” The group, which will be visiting churches and schools a few weekends per semester, is also designed to recruit prospective students to the music school as the first contact.
The school of music has two main choirs—University Singers and Chorale—but this group is unique. The Doxology Singers only allows 12 members, who must both sing and play an instrument. Bahnean said that the music for the group, being chamber music, is different because it’s small.
To be a part of the ensemble, students, including transfers, must be at least a sophomore and be on campus, having taken in-person classes for at least one year. Those who audition should have good sight reading skills, good personalities and character, good discipline as well as a good musician.
Students who participate will receive larger scholarships because the Doxology Singers is a travelling group.
The Doxology Singers is open to visiting any church that invites them.
“We’re here for all and any churches that want to invite us, to worship with them on Sunday mornings or evenings,” Bahnean said.
